Google Chrome Web Store Explained [VIDEOS]

chrome-web-app-storeGoogle Chrome Web Store has just launched. But to some, it may still be a little confusing. The concept is similar to how Android or Apple’s iTunes application marketplace work.

Developers submit their applications to the Google Chrome Web Store to be curated. Once approved, these apps will be made available for users to download through the Chrome Web Store.

Ratings and reviews also provide a reliable form of gate-keep to ensure users make an educated choice. Instead of running the applications via smartphones, web apps are operated through the Chrome browser.

In short, the Chrome Web Store is a marketplace for web applications and hopefully there will be a web app for almost any function in the near future.

It is true that mobile applications provide great mobility but web applications could be way more powerful since it is operated via wide screen desktops or laptops. The apps work as long as the Chrome browser is available. Most importantly, web applications are directly connected to the machine (our laptop) that helps us do most work. Productivity applications would be huge plus.

But Google isn’t the only one who has this vision. Apple seems to be heading toward the same direction with its upcoming Mac app store. The only difference is that Mac app operates through the Mac Operating System while Google’s web app operates through the browser.

Back to Chrome Web Store, below are four videos, which explore the new web app platform deeper. Of course, it is best to give it a try yourself.
