In brief: Go-Jek introduces in-car entertainment and retail
Indonesian ride-hailing giant Go-Jek today announced that it has acquired Indonesian adtech startup Promogo for an undisclosed sum. The startup also provides a service that it described as “the equal of an in-flight entertainment services” in cars: Passengers will be able to watch movies or shows inside the cars, taste product samples, charge their phone batteries, use Wi-Fi, or pick up brochures.

The deal will allow Go-Jek to introduce Go-Vend, its in-car retail service “where customers can buy daily necessities or receive free samples from leading brands inside a Go-Car vehicle,” said Promogo CEO and founder Andrew Tanyono.
Go-Jek’s rival Grab also rolled out advertising and in-car shopping recently in a bid to boost its drivers’ incomes. In August, Grab claimed to have seized the majority in Indonesia’s ride-hailing market, overtaking Go-Jek in its home country.
