GMIC highlights:

Location-Based Services Panel Highlights

Dr. Li Song, Founder, Digu

#1835: On Digu a lot of our team, even the founders, they come from Tencent where they used to focus on QQ mobile and they have experience to run 100 M customers online. When it comes to a business model, you’d better think just about one business model, because if you depend on five or six it will make the execution very difficult. (tweet this) So you hope everything can be balanced, if one model fails another can rise. But it’s hard to control, hard to cover. You need to find one pure model that can support you.

Michael Jiang, VP of Product & Operations, Dianping.com

#1755: In the past eight years, local businesses get the least help from the net. (tweet this) In Shanghai and Beijing we have net resources to help local businesses find customers. And we have coupons, search engines to help. For us, we have two models: the first is check in, mobile phones have given us a new window. The second is group-buy the groupon model. This is a good supplementary for local business. Local advertising too.

All these put together will help us assist local people. The 4square CEO said 4square is not about check-in, it’s only concerned with what happened after check in. Check-in itself doesn’t mean anything.
