Indonesian unicorn Gojek has launched GoGames, a service that enables users to top up gaming credits, read up on trends and guides for games, and consume content from influencers and professionals in the space.

The GoGames platform, which is integrated into the Gojek app in Indonesia, focuses on three key areas: payments, features, and content.
With GoGames Top-up, users can purchase game credits and virtual items for various titles. It also offers promos, discounts, vouchers, and special offers from GoPay such as cashback for game top-up.
GoGames Recipe, on the other hand, provides tips and guides for players, as well as information about national and international tournaments.
On the media side, GoGames TV curates content from professional gamers and YouTubers and esports players in Indonesia.
Gojek, which is on track to raise up to US$2.5 billion in its ongoing series F round, did not disclose the specific titles that the service will support or whether it will launch the platform in other countries too.
The launch of GoGames follows the ride-hailing giant’s initial entry into the gaming industry through GoPay’s partnerships with Codashop, Unipin, and Tencent that enable top-ups of gaming credits. Since the feature’s introduction a year ago, Gojek claims to have experienced a 40% growth in GoPay’s monthly transactions.
“At Gojek, it is in our DNA to constantly innovate and bring more benefits to our users. This includes the gaming and esports industry that is quickly growing in Indonesia,” said Gojek co-founder Kevin Aluwi.
According to a 2018 study by Pokkt, Decision Lab, and Mobile Marketing Association, the number of mobile gamers in Indonesia has surpassed 60 million and is expected to reach 100 million by 2020.
Earlier this year, Gojek’s investment arm, Go-Ventures, led a US$35.5 million round in India-based Mobile Premier League, which aims to be a global platform for game tournaments and distributions.
Indonesian media firm IDN Media recently acquired multiplatform esports company GGWP.id to also capitalize on the growth of the sector. Last year, local conglomerate Salim Group signed a partnership with esports events organizer ESL that allowed the latter to host gaming tournaments in the country.
