In today’s internet era, where web browsers have become the primary tool for online activities, attackers have shifted their focus toward exploiting browser vulnerabilities. This has introduced new threats such as phishing, identity theft, and browser-based attacks.
Singapore-based SquareX is addressing this gap by building a cybersecurity product designed to tackle the current generation of threats.
Launched by cybersecurity veteran Vivek Ramachandran, the company recently raised US$6 million in a seed funding round led by Sequoia Capital Southeast Asia.

The funds raised will be used for research and development, engineering, and go-to-market strategies.
By using SquareX’s cloud service, the company lets users open links and files in special browsers that neutralize threats. These special browsers run in data centers, stopping web threats before they reach users’ computers.
The company engaged its first set of users in March this year and plans to launch a beta version of its solution for a limited group starting in May.
“The online world is about to get a whole lot worse as the AI revolution gets channeled towards building malicious code,” said Anandamoy Roychowdhary, partner of Surge, a rapid scale-up program by Sequoia Southeast Asia.
