General Atlantic eyes $2b for SEA, India startups
US-based private equity firm General Atlantic is earmarking US$2 billion in investments for startups based in India and Southeast Asia, reported Reuters.
The firm is looking at backing 15 startups in the tech, financial services, and retail and consumer spaces as company valuations fall in the region. General Atlantic currently has US$4.5 billion worth of investments in India and Southeast Asia, but it only spent a record low of US$190 million on Indian firms in 2021.
“We are very bullish on India, Indonesia, and Vietnam,” Sandeep Naik, head of India and Asia Pacific at General Atlantic, said in the Reuters report.
General Atlantic recently led the US$74 million round of Philippine livestreaming app Kumu. It also has investments in PT MAP Boga Adiperkasa from Indonesia as well as in Reliance Retail and Byju’s from India.
