For a wired generation used to playing games on the computer or smartphone, the Real Escape Game offers an alternative, novel way to have fun.
We were told that over 100,000 participants have played the game in China and Japan, where it was conceptualized. Which explains its longish full title: “The Real Escape Game in Singapore Vol 1: Escape from the Mysterious Cathedral”.
The event will be held at the CHIJMES Hall from 27th January to 29th January at various times.
In this game, participants are placed in a locked room and must work in teams to solve puzzles that will eventually lead to a key that will unlock the door to freedom. All within a limited time.
Participants can choose to work within their own team — which probably consists of some friends and a reluctant boyfriend — or collaborate and strategize with strangers from other teams.
It’s interesting that this event is branded a “real” game, as if to remind us that the physical world we live in is reality, and that games like World of Warcraft are fantasy. Maybe some of us do need that reminder.
