Michael Jackson and Chinese Red Army Parody Video Goes Viral

red armyMany will wonder whether there is any linkage between the two. But I ensure you there aren’t anything wrong with the title. Creative netizens in China somehow created a parody video to connect the two together.

The video image is originated from the Revolutionary Opera, which was the only artistic expression allowed in China during the Cultural Revolution between 1966 and 1976.

Some creative Chinese netizens have successfully matched the video image with the music of the famous song “Beat It” by the late Michael Jackson.

This video has been circulating in China’s Internet for a while and is very well received on China’s most popular video websites, Tudou.

Thanks to the increasingly open political environment in China, it is unlikely that the makers of this video will be jailed. If it were 30 years ago, the situation would have been pretty drastic, in a negative way of course.

Although China is still not open enough compared to the Western culture, Chinese netizens are becoming increasingly creative in finding ways to make fun of Chinese propaganda efforts. Way to go China!
