Foodpanda Singapore denies it was raided by police, calls rumors ‘absolutely untrue’

Foodpanda’s Singapore offices were allegedly raided by police last Friday, if a rumour circulated by tech blog e27 is true.

However, Foodpanda flatly denies such an incident ever took place. Both Cassandra Ong, Foodpanda’s head of marketing for Singapore, and Tim Schefenacker, Foodpanda’s global head of communications, told Tech in Asia that the rumor is absolutely untrue and that “there has been absolutely no incident in [Foodpanda’s] Singapore office.”

The rumour seems to come from an anonymous tip-off and has not been confirmed.

Operating under the umbrella of German startup builder Rocket Internet, Foodpanda is active in 14 Asian countries. The online food delivery service has been busy lately, acquiring rival startups left and right.

It has secured total funding to the tune of US$218 million, after its latest funding round of US$110 million from Rocket Internet and Goldman Sachs.

Tech in Asia has reached out to Singapore Police to confirm whether it actually visited Foodpanda’s offices. We will update this story once we hear from them.
