Dubbed MetaHollywood, the venture features a marketplace for iconic movie imagery, moments, and merchandise in NFT form. It will also provide a community for collectors where they can share and interact with digital assets in a metaverse fueled by the utility of its own native token.
Around 60,000 memorabilia used as props by top movie stars will be recreated as NFTs as part of the joint venture, including those used by George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, and Jason Statham.
Animoca focuses on digital entertainment and gamification. It’s the company behind games such as The Sandbox and Crazy Kings, as well as projects using intellectual properties (IPs) from the likes of Disney and WWE. Recently, it was reported that Animoca is set to acquire Australian digital marketing firm Be Media for an undisclosed sum.
“The MetaHollywood joint venture will create tremendous opportunities by leveraging Planet Hollywood’s vast network of celebrities and IPs and combining them with our industry expertise and our broad portfolio of products and companies,” said Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chair of Animoca.
