Written content started from print… and China was the first to start printing using woodblocks. It was a great innovation back then, a strong evidence that China has a certain level of creative thinking. Sure, it is copying now. But soon the nation will be oozing with creative innovations, at least in my opinion.
My friend Tiago (@TSSVeloso) recently shared with me an interesting infographic that tells the journey of print to digital. Besides print’s origin, everything is pretty much westernized, till today. We’re currently in the age of iPads, Kindles and Galaxy Tabs. Magazines are digitized and people are discussing the role and the bleak future of newspaper. We’re in a transition phase to witness how digitized content would takeover print.
Is it really that simple? No matter how tech advance humans are, I’m sure print (or paper) has a role to play. Even with e-ink technology, printed paper content still has much to offer – convenience (depends on how you look at it), the feel, speed of note taking, readability are just some of its plus points .
The infographic also kept me thinking what would be next after the iPad. Surely, tablets can’t be the last and only thing left in this ever-changing world. iPads will not dominate forever and holographic content seems far-fetched.
Theoretically, a device that has both elements of digital and print would be ideal. How can we achieve that? That would be the billion dollar question. Enjoy the infographic (Click to enlarge):
