In August 2020, the social networking titan launched Instagram Reels in over 50 countries, including the US, India, Brazil, France, Germany, the UK, Australia, Japan, Spain, Mexico, among others.
Instagram Reels helps users create and edit up to 60 seconds of short-form videos. It also offers editing tools that allows people to create and share their videos through Instagram’s stories, direct messages, news feed, and the new Reels tab.
Users in Singapore can now find Reels on their Instagram camera. They can film videos directly on Reels or use a saved video from their camera roll, and then edit them via the creative tools.
“We are continuously listening to and taking inspiration from what our community wants,” said Reels product manager Erin Pettigrew. “We see Reels as a core part of the future of entertainment on Instagram.”
In September, Facebook also rolled out a full suite of music features on both its main app and Instagram for users in Singapore to connect them to their preferred artists and communities.

The fresh initiatives come amid a rough month for Facebook. A whistleblower turned over documents to the Wall Street Journal for an exposé that revealed how the social media company puts “astronomical profits” before people. Facebook also faced a recent global outage that temporarily took down all its apps including WhatsApp and Instagram.
Facebook is also reportedly looking to change its company name as it attempts to underscore its goal to be known for more than just social media. The rebrand could position Facebook a unit under a parent firm that would encompass companies like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Oculus, among others.
