Rising SE Asian startups this week: clean meat, clean hotels, and more

Which are the startups that are on the path to becoming the next big thing? In this regular post, we give you an overview of the companies that have raised money in the past week, as well as those we think investors should look at.

1. RedDoorz (Singapore)

RedDoorz, which offers a network of standardized accommodation, is reportedly raising a series B round of up to US$50 million. The investment will be led by Qiming Venture Partners and will enable to further develop deep-tech features like its AI-based pricing algorithm. More info.

2. CXA (Singapore)

CXA, an AI-driven health platform, recently raised US$25 million to develop customised solutions for its B2B enterprise clients. Investors included HSBC, Singtel Innov8, MDI Ventures, Sumitomo Corporation Equity Asia, Muang Thai Fuchsia Ventures, Humanica, and Heritas Venture Fund. More info.

3. Docquity (Singapore)

Docquity, a networking platform for doctors in Southeast Asia, closed a US$11 million series B fundraising round led by led by Itochu Corporation Japan with participation from SPH Ventures, KDV Holdings, and Joe Hirao, CEO of Zigexn Japan. More info.

4. Nutrition Innovation (Singapore)

Nutrition Innovation, which develops technology to produce low-glycemic sugar at scale, raised US$5 million in a funding round led by VisVires New Protein with participation from Enerfo and a UK-based family office. More info.

5. Tigerhall (Singapore)

Knowledge-sharing startup Tigerhall raised US$1.8 million in seed funding. US-based strategic learning firm WDHB, Singapore-based asset management firm Paladigm Capital, and a private investor in Singapore participated in the funding round. More info.

6. Saphron (Philippines)

Saphron, an insurtech startup, raised US$1 million in seed funding from Sage Venture and Talino Venture Labs. Saphron will use artificial intelligence and real-time data analytics to enhance underwriting and customer services. More info.

7. Tribe Theory (Singapore)

Hostel startup Tribe Theory raised US$738,300 in seed funding from Superangel, Aurum Investments, and Reapra. The funds will enable the startup to grow its presence in Tallinn Estonia, Kuala Lumpur, and the Philippines. More info.

8. Ovo (Indonesia)

Digital wallet startup Ovo reportedly received an investment for an undisclosed amount from Indonesian e-commerce unicorn Tokopedia. Neither company has confirmed the news. More info.

9. CMG Retail (Philippines)

Decades-old brick-and-mortar retailer CMG Retail has built an e-commerce channel by adopting digital logistics infrastructure using the QuadX platform. It has also adopted digital processes for inventory management. More info.

10. Capssion (Singapore)

Former Lazada executives Matthieu Coti, Thibault Couperie Eiffel, and Koussey Goupil left the e-commerce giant to start Capssion, an influencer marketing platform focusing on Southeast Asia. It connects beauty and fashion brands with influencers. More info.

11. Xfers (Singapore)

Xfers, a fintech platform for digital businesses, received approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore to become a widely accepted stored value facility. More info.

12. Shiok Meats (Singapore)

Southeast Asia’s first cell-based meat company, Shiok Meats, is developing a sustainable method for producing healthy, cruelty-free seafood meat on a commercial scale. It is focusing on cell-based crustacean meat. More info.
