EVO 2014 lineup revealed, has Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Killer Instinct

The Evolution Championship Series 2014 game lineup has been announced. What is pretty much the Olympics of fighting game competitions will be held on July 11 to July 13, 2014 at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The games that will be played are:

+Ultra Street Fighter IV
+Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
+Killer Instinct
+Injustice: Gods Among Us
+King of Fighters XIII
+BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma

Ultra Street Fighter IV and Killer Instinct are no brainers given the fierce following of the former and the hype train leading the latter. Given Microsoft’s involvement with Killer Instinct it will be interesting to see if they will sponsor EVO 2014 in any way. And while Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, having been released in 2011, is a really old game, (Soulcalibur V featured for all of one year in the EVO tournament series), it’s still going strong. Last year’s floor-shaking grand finals are testament to that.

The inclusion of Super Smash Bros Melee is still being considered by Nintendo, although the EVO 2014 tournament does have room in the lineup for Smash. Here’s to seeing Asia (or Asians, go Jwong!) wipe the floor at all major games again.
