Entrepreneurship – A call for action

A young budding entrepreneur, Ridzuan, pens down this short reflection on what makes one entrepreneurial.
Over the past week, I’ve been conducting interviews for the next batch of students hoping to do a Minor in Entrepreneurship in campus and one question that I keep asking them is, “What makes them entrepreneurial in nature?” What is this entrepreneurship animal and why is it that everyone is howling its name?

Upon reflection, I ask myself, What makes one entrepreneurial?

Is it the fact that one does things differently?

Is it only when one does things differently and succeeds?

What is it that one does?

Immediately, a word pops into my head, Action.

Entrepreneurs take action and in doing so, turn worthless ideas into tangible products/processes/services. I’s really simple actually – most of us have gripes about almost everything that happens throughout the day. Everything from why it’s so difficult to get approval for a project from your supervisor because of the paper shuffling to why we can’t find what we need on the other giant animal called the Internet. Once that happens, we start talking amongst ourselves, “Why can’t someone design so-and-so-service to make things better?”

But at the end of the day? What do we do about it? Nothing…and yet, we’ve gone through the entire process of identifying a problem to coming up with a solution.

So what is this entrepreneurship buzz about?

It’s a call from all around you to take action.

To take that dream that’s floating in your head and bringing it alive.

Think about it…it’s not that difficult isn’t it?

Identify problem
Formulate possible solution
Act upon it.

Entrepreneurs dare to take part in the last step…
