US agrifood giant Cargill backs Singapore AI-backed food startup

Singapore-based ProfilePrint, a food ingredient analysis startup, has raised an undisclosed amount of series A1 funding from US-based agrifood giant Cargill.

Founded in 2017 by Alan Lai, ProfilePrint offers an AI-powered ingredient search engine that allows customers to better determine the quality of a food sample. The company said its solution streamlines the physical food grading process, which normally takes an “enormous amount” of resources.

The startup has deployed its tech in over 26 cities across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

The fresh capital will be invested in product development, business expansion, and talent acquisition.

In the past six months, Cargill has tested and explored real-world applications of the startup’s technology for ingredients such as cocoa and chocolate. ProfilePrint plans to establish these ingredients as its core business verticals.

The Singapore-based startup bagged a seven-figure pre-series A round in 2021 and an eight-figure series A round earlier this year. It counts some of the biggest food corporations in the world as its backers, including Louis Dreyfus Company, Olam International, Sucafina, and Sinar Mas.
