East Ventures Invests in Social Gaming Start-up, SoybeanSoft

soybeansoftOur investor, East Ventures, has been pretty busy in Indonesia lately.

Just when we thought that it would be kept busy with its new 100-day start-up accelerator program, we just received news that it has invested in SoybeanSoft, a social gaming company in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

So what does SoybeanSoft do? They basically build social games targeted at Indonesian users. The co-founder of Soybeansoft, Guntur Sarwohadi, said that his start-up is now busy building a cross-platform social game entitled ‘Hunter Story,’ which includes elements of RPG, social gaming, and 3D graphics. It sounds like a title any gamer would want to get his hands on.

Sarwohadi also told me via phone that the game will be in a private beta release for selected Facebook gamers later this month. It will subsequently be available on mobile platforms including iOS and Android. When asked his thoughts about the investment, Sarwohadi remarked:

It’s exciting. We wanted to build social games but we knew it would take a lot of resources to do that. It’s nice to have East Ventures with us.

Besides Hunter Story, SoybeanSoft has other games in its portfolio, with titles including SkyFyre II, Puzzle Brawler, and PacketRush. To familiarize myself with SoybeanSoft’s work, I took some time to play SkyFyre II, a web based shooting game. I thought it was simple and fun, so I recommend you give it a shot too (it’s free).

Just taking a break...

Most of its games are licensed to gaming portals including MochiMedia, ArmorGames, DisneyXD, Candystand, SpielGames. And we can expect more exciting games from SoybeanSoft after this round of funding. The investment sum is undisclosed.

After its previous investment in Nightspade, this is East Ventures’ second investment in a gaming start-up.

Elsewhere in the Asian gaming space, we also reported today that China-based mobile tech giant, Huawei, is expected to invest heavily in Chinese gaming development firm, Kunlun.
