Around a month ago, Valve announced that there will be an in-game event for the Year of the Horse. Aside from said announcement and the invitation for artists to make workshop submissions for the Spring 2014 collection, Valve has given no additional details regarding the Chinese New Year event.
A post on SGamer, however, shared a Weibo post by Ming Yin ‘Hippovic’ Chen, a Valve employee who works on Dota 2 in China. Here’s a translation as shared by Reddit user crimsonSoldier:
After tonight, I will be returning to China. In the past, when I came to Seattle I always wanted to stay longer, only this time my heart longs to return earlier because of Chinese New Year. Very satisfied with the meeting results. We basically covered all major problems, if execution is successful the problems can be solved quickly. Hope everyone will like the CNY game mode, hope the open beta of dota2 in China will be successful.
According to the post, the event is expected to run from January 27th through the 30th, which coincides with Valve’s announcement about the event being at the end of January. However, Matthew ‘Cyborgmatt‘ Bailey and Dimitri ‘Mali’ Vallette say otherwise on Twitter:
At the time of writing, Valve has not made an official announcement about having a game mode. After seeing previous events like Diretide, Greeviling, and Wraith Night, what are your thoughts and expectations about having a Chinese New Year game mode?
