Earlier today, the Dota 2 team made a post about the next patch for spring time and Chinese New Year. Iām guessing that along with that update will come a new hero: Sun Wu Kong. Looking back now, Warcraft 3 DotA received an alternate reality game (ARG) along with the 6.79 patch and it involved a quest hero named after the popular Chinese mythological hero Sun Wu Kong.
For those who are not aware, an ARG is basically an in-game event usually triggered by certain in-game conditions or instances like a side quest. The mechanics to these side quests, however, are not immediately revealed and instead have to be figured out by players using a series of real-world clues such as posts on websites, images and the like. ARG events are common occurrences whenever WC3 DotA gets a x.x9 map. Since 6.49, the hero you are up against in the ARG side quest has become a playable hero in later updates. Such is the case for Invoker (6.49), Tauren Chieftain/Elder Titan (6.59), and Phoenix (6.69). Hereās a video for 6.79ās Sun Wu Kong:
The 6.79 update is the first ARG-related patch WC3 DotA has received since the release of Dota 2 and based on previous x.x9 events, it is highly possible that we get Sun Wu Kong as an in-game hero, too. Although no details for the next Dota 2 in-game event have been revealed save for the target release date and that it is themed with Chinese New Year, Chinese history, and spring time, it would be timely to add a Chinese-based hero to the game during the event. Even Dariath from WhatIsHip.TV thinks so:
But what do you think? Do you think Sun Wu Kong will be included in the Chinese new year Dota 2 update? Or will WC3 DotA get it first? Or would you be more interested in another hero like Techies for instance? Let us know in the comments section below.
