The recently released Devil’s Dare from Singaporean developer Secret Base gets an update today on Steam, both for current users and those who have yet to try it.
If you haven’t picked up the game and would like some personal experience to go with the Games in Asia review, Secret Base is making a demo of the game available on Steam. It’s only one level, but does allow you to try out any of the characters.
The game has also added a casual mode. This is probably geared toward players who would be playing alone, but other people might find this useful. Based on experience playing the game, some might be more inclined to jump in if the game were easier from the start, as I definitely found myself dying early and often.
The game will also be adding the obligatory survival mode, for one to four players. This seems to be its own take on the horde mode, which has players battling wave after wave of enemies. Combined with the addition of leaderboards, this definitely seems to make Devil’s Dare a more complete game.
For anyone who has been playing, the patch will reset current leaderboards in the lead up to a contest, in which the studio is giving away US$666, to the leaders on the respective boards. If money doesn’t motivate you, rest easy, you’re not alone, but Secret Base is also going to feature statues of the four winners in the game. This contest is running through November 9.
The opportunity to be featured in a game is something that’s usually limited to monetary supporters on Kickstarter, whether backers opt for it or not, but it’s interesting to see a developer doing this with a game that already exists, and to be basing the prizes on in-game skill.
