One day later than usual, owing to a bit of Christmas downtime, here’s our round-up of the most significant developments on the Chinese web and tech scene last week:


1. Dell Unveils First Ever Smartphone Running Baidu’s Android-Based OS


We knew that Baidu’s (NASDAQ:BIDU) own mobile OS was on its way soon, so it was nice to start the week with a shiny new gadget to look at as one big name stepped forward to be Baidu’s first mobile partner – Dell (NASDAQ:DELL).


2. Tencent Weibo to Join in Real-Name Requirement for Microblogs


After Beijing municipality outlined new rules for real-name registration for blog users (see that story here), there was a brief period in which many wondered if it’d apply only to Beijing-based Sina (NASDAQ:SINA). But, no. This looks to be going nationwide, and so Tencent (HKG:0700) Weibo has to dance to the same tune.


3. Hackers Steal Data of Millions of Chinese Net Users


IT portal and community CDSN got hacked last week with data for its more than six million users being subsequently leaked online. Time for fresh passwords all round.


4. Chinese Hackers Gained Full Access to US Chamber of Commerce’s Systems [REPORT]


In a more long-term back-door security breach, a different set of hackers might well have been delving through the US Chamber of Commerce’s network for a whole year, until spotted by the FBI.


5. 5 Outstanding Chinese Startups That Emerged in 2011


And because it’s nearly the end of the year, here’s a look back on five of the most impressive new startups to emerge into the limelight in 2011.
