Monk’s Hill leads $2.6m round of Vietnam coding edtech startup

CoderSchool, a Vietnam-based coding-focused edtech firm, said it has raised US$2.6 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Monk’s Hill Ventures.

Startup accelerator Iterative, investment network XA Network, and venture fund iSeed Ventures also took part in the latest funding round.

CoderSchool plans to use the new funding to create fresh educational content and build its technology infrastructure for technical education programs.

Founded in 2015, CoderSchool offers courses in machine learning, data science, and full-stack web development to help students land jobs. The company automates most of its operations of day-to-day teaching including student progress tracking, submission grading, class attendance, and course personalization.

“The need for strong engineers and developers in Southeast Asia has never been as pertinent as it is today with the growth of tech companies and digital businesses,” said Michele Daoud, partner at Monk’s Hill Ventures.

CoderSchool said its online enrolments have grown 100% every quarter since early 2020. CoderSchool added that it has catered to over 2,000 students to date and over 80% of its full-time users found a job at firms like MoMo, Tiki, Shopee, Microsoft, and FPT Software within six months of graduation.

CoderSchool also claims that its alumni earn about 30% to 40% more than published industry averages for entry-level software engineering roles.

Currently, the edtech firm employs 15 instructional staff and plans to hire an additional 35 employees by Q4 2022, it said in a statement.
