From Singapore to China, hereโ€™s a list of Asian unicorns born in the past 5 years (INFOGRAPHIC)

In the past five years, Asia gave rise to at least 60 companies valued over one billion dollars.

2014 was particularly hot. Looking at the year-on-year numbers of new unicorns born, that year saw the highest growth rate with an almost 700 percent increase from the previous year. So while 2013 birthed four unicorn companies, 2014 had 19, and 2015 saw 29.

Perhaps the most obvious reason for the leap in the number of unicorn companies in the past two years is the huge amount of global venture capital ploughed into the region. Various factors contributed to the sense of big opportunity in the Asian markets, one of them Alibabaโ€™s impressive success story that culminated in its record-breaking IPO in September 2014.

According to Tech in Asia data, Asian countries like China and India saw a huge increase in the amounts invested here in the past two years. China hit a new high at US$36 billion, while India reached US$7.7 billion worth in disclosed deals in 2015. For China, itโ€™s a 400 percent growth in investment amount compared to the numbers in 2014.

Here are some figures about Asian unicorns in the past five years.
