Struggling Kodak launches marketplace for photographers; only available in Singapore

kodakit by kodak

Kodak, a film photography company that failed to adapt to the world’s shift to digital cameras and smartphones, is mounting a comeback.

This week, it launched Kodakit, a mobile app on iOS and Android for people to find and book freelance photographers based on their budget and occasion. Everything can be done in-app it seems, even payments and receiving the photos.

The marketplace is available only in Singapore for now, and lists around 200 freelancers. It takes a 20 percent cut of each transaction, which seems hefty considering it might cost a few hundred to a few thousand to engage a photographer for an event.

Given the ubiquity of photography services and the ease of finding them, Kodak is taking a gamble with this service. People in the country are already searching for photography services through word of mouth, Google searches, and online forums like ClubSnap.
