After just two days, Korea’s KT mysteriously stops selling the Xiaomi Note 3

Well, that didn’t last long. After going up for sale on virtual shelves in Korea just two days ago, Xiaomi’s Note 3 smartphone has already been taken down. The phone, which Korean Telecom KT was selling through its ecommerce partner InterPark, had been on sale for 69,000 Won (US$58). That’s less half of what the same phone costs in China, where it’ll run you RMB 899 (US$137) on Xiaomi’s official site.
So why had the phone been removed from shelves after just a couple of days? According to InterPark, it’s due to a “legal issue,” but the company hasn’t shared more details beyond that it has already made its decision and communicated that to KT.
Industry insiders reportedly have speculated that the takedown could be due to pressure from Samsung and LG. The Korean phone makers are both partners with KT and both stand to lose ground in Korea if Xiaomi gains a foothold there. But both companies have already publicly denied having anything to do with the takedown or exerting any pressure on KT or InterPark.
What’s really going on here? Your guess is as good as ours.
