Hello reader,

I often hear about startups “copy-pasting” their success from one country to another. But as Osome found out, it’s not as easy as tapping a few buttons.

The Singapore-based corporate services firm recently pulled back on its investments in the UK. Why? Because it realized it was trying to solve a problem that British companies didn’t really have.

In Singapore and Hong Kong, businesses are required to appoint a corporate secretary. No such rule exists in the UK, however.

Now, Osome is pivoting to what it’s more familiar with. The firm’s CFO, William Chong, told me that it has been doubling down on Singapore and Hong Kong in the past few years.

But expansion isn’t entirely out the window. The company is also betting big on the United Arab Emirates, where a new federal corporate tax is creating fresh opportunities for companies like Osome.

Our latest premium story dives into the specifics of this strategic retreat and why the firm believes Dubai is its next goldmine.

Speaking of greener pastures, there’s a new AI role that’s gaining momentum: AI librarian. A person in this role curates, structures, and maintains the internal intelligence that a firm’s AI system depends on.

This edition’s second featured story takes a closer look at what the job entails. Spoiler alert: It’s not about organizing dusty bookshelves.
