RIM Partners with 7digital, Brings 9+ Million Music Tracks To PlayBook users in Singapore

MusicStoreNo iTunes? Have no fear. RIM has just announced a partnership with 7digital to offer over nine million music tracks to all BlackBerry PlayBook users in Singapore. A BlackBerry representative claims that “this service is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.”

If you own a PlayBook, you can log on to the new Music Store app to gain access to these tracks. Similar to the iTunes concept, the Music Store app allows you to preview before making a purchase. The app is part of the latest software update for the BlackBerry Tablet OS (v1.0.7). So simply do an update if you don’t find the store in your PlayBook. Here are some screenshots:

Ben Drury, the CEO of 7digital, commented:

Using the 7digital API, RIM has developed a quality music application that allows users to purchase high-quality MP3s from our extensive catalogue. The BlackBerry PlayBook is an incredibly high-performance tablet, and we’re pleased to have extended our partnership with RIM to include Singapore in addition to existing international territories.

Whether the PlayBook is marketed as a business or entertainment tablet, it is always good to be able to buy music on one’s tablet. Even the most serious of businessmen will occasionally want to groove with the latest tunes. It’s good news for PlayBook owners in Singapore, who can finally buy some songs and show them off to your friends who own iPads. “See? I have a music store on my tablet too!”
