Earth Venture Capital has joined the latest round of US-based Group14 Technologies, a company that makes lithium-silicon batteries.
Group14’s main product is SCC55, a material that can be used for lithium-silicon batteries that the company says can store five times more energy than graphite.
The company also plans to build a new factory for battery materials in South Korea together with industrial gas manufacturer SK Materials. Group14’s joint venture with SK Materials will help it make more batteries and have a stable supply chain.
The funding from Earth VC and other investors will also help Group14 grow its business, boost its research and development efforts, and sell its battery products faster.
Earth VC is a global fund that invests in sustainable technologies. It was founded in 2021, focusing on seed to series A opportunities. The companies in its portfolio include Singaporean startup Ampotech, Hong Kong-based ClearBot, and Israeli firm ITC.
The investment firm previously told Tech in Asia that it typically invests US$300,000 to US$3 million per startup.
