You’re probably wondering what one of the world’s largest e-commerce site has to do with free Japanese online games, but I assure you that it will all start to make sense once you read further.
On May 13, Japan’s Amazon page launched a new section on its site, listing free-to-play PC games like the PC version of Million Arthur. At present, there are ten different games being offered for free download:
1. Onimusha: Soul
2. Wizardry Online
3. Pro Yakyuu Next (browser version)
4. Million Arthur (PC version)
5. Hundred Years War: Euro Historia
6. Megami Engage
7. Kingdom Rising (browser version)
8. Ikkitousen (browser version)
9. MC Akujizu (browser version)
10. Shikihime Zoushi

Upon clicking on any of the games listed on the page, you will be led to a standard Amazon product page listing the game details (and its $0 cost) and a “checkout” link to download the game.
Finally, here’s the reason you may want to do all of this instead of simply downloading the game—your in-game account will be linked to your Amazon account, sending all future micro-transactions through Amazon. This is apparently to provide users with a sense of security performing micro-transactions, as Amazon is a trusted brand name worldwide.
More games are set to join the growing library being offered on Amazon, and I can’t help but wonder if it will really catch on. I guess we can only wait and see.
