Chinese drone maker joins quadcopter craze with new $20M investment

xaircraft

China-based personal drone maker XAircraft today announced a US$20 million series A funding round led by Chengwei Capital, according to 36kr. The money will go toward further technology development and marketing.

XAircraft makes several models of drones ranging from hobbyist quadcopters to professional aerial photography rigs. They also make the flight controllers, camera gimbals, and other accessories. Training, building, and repair services are also available.

The company was founded in Guangzhou, China in 2007. Earlier this year, Xaircraft expanded beyond China with a sales and service center in Sydney, Australia.

A fully-assembled professional model retails starting at US$2,499, while the basic kit starts at $899.

A growing number of personal drone companies are coming out of Asia, including the recently crowdfunded Ehang and our own Startup Arena winner Garuda Robotics. Amazon is reasearching drones for logistics purposes, while Facebook and Google have each acquired their own drone companies, seeing the potential of their future applications. That includes aerial mapping, forest fire prevention, security monitoring, and emergency medical assistance.
