If you follow the League of Legends scene in China, you almost certainly know Wawa. He has been shoutcasting the game for years, and at this point, he’s practically ubiquitous—you’ll find him shoutcasting almost every competitive match involving Chinese teams.

But the beloved Wawa has now found himself at the center of a firestorm after a recording, supposedly from his stream, popped up online and went viral. The 20-minute recording that has popped up features only audio, so it’s difficult to be sure whether it’s truly Wawa, but it features someone who sounds very much like him raging at another player and using extremely profane language.
It’s not worth translating everything he says directly, but let’s put it this way: he makes repeated reference to sex acts with the other player’s mother, among other things.
Granted, Wawa was supposedly saying all of this on his own personal stream, not the official LPL stream or any other stream he was casting in a professional capacity. But many Chinese League fans still feel that Wawa should be punished for his actions, as it damages the image of competitive eSports in China.
It will also be interesting to see whether Tencent opts to punish Wawa in some way. As the owner and publisher of League of Legends and the company behind the LPL, Tencent is Wawa’s employer, and is certainly in a position to discipline or even fire him if it chooses to do so.
This is the second high-profile case in the past month that has seen Chinese eSports casters come in for criticism; Dota 2 caster Mik was harshly criticized after calling a critic of hers retarded during a stream.
