Nailed it. Japanese fingernail design app gets $836k seed round

One of life’s simple pleasures is having your nails professionally painted in a colorful, fun design. At least that’s what I’ve been told. There must be some truth there because a Japanese nail design photo app just earned JPY 100 million (US$836,000) in seed funding. Spika, the company producing the Nailbook app (for iOS and Android), previously nabbed JPY 50 million (US$420,000) in May 2014.

Incubate Fund and Solar Seed Startups funded the firm then, but the current round came from Gree Ventures and B Dash Ventures.

As you might expect, users can find fun nail designs on the app, share their own, and even follow established nail artists. Founded in April 2014, Spika has seen Nailbook make positive strides with users.

The company announced that Nailbook has reached 1 million downloads and sees 600,000 monthly users. Those users have posted over 700,000 pictures of nail designs. The quality of those posts are ostensibly high too – over 60 percent come from professional nail designers.
