Is a Wakfu mobile game coming soon to Asia?

Ankama Games, the company behind Wakfu Asia, is teaming up with Japanese mobile game giant Gumi Inc. to start making mobile games. This move comes after Ankama’s first foray into the Asian market, which saw it set up an office in Singapore to operate the Wakfu Asia game service.

“Gumi Inc.’s expertise in mobile game development combined with their in-depth knowledge of the Asian mobile market makes them the best partner to pursue our development,” Olivier Comte, managing director and chief operating officer at Ankama, said in a press release.

Ankama Games holds the key to a huge world in Wakfu Asia, an immersive free-to-play MMORPG with grid-based combat, and it’s easy to see all that strong IP translate into equally immersive and no less entertaining mobile games. Ankama Games has also created an animated series centred around the world of Wakfu, and recently Kickstarted the English translation for the show.

The partnership’s first project is due this year, and the press release promises that more details on the new game will be revealed in coming months.
