Chinese greentech firm launches smart charging robot for EVs

Chinese greentech firm Envision Group unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV) charging robot fully powered by green electricity.

Called Mochi, the device will be commercially available starting in June, according to a company statement.

Mochi operates on Envision’s proprietary operating system EnOS, which connects and manages over 200 gigawatts of renewable energy assets globally. The device can charge EVs in two hours for a cruising range of up to 600 kilometers and is compatible with most mainstream EVs on the market, the company said.

The charging robot is equipped with location-sensing technology and can set up smart-charging plans, locate EVs, and start charging on its own. EnOS automatically conducts real-time monitoring on the EV battery during charging as well as a comprehensive health examination to ensure the user’s safety.

Users can subscribe to Mochi’s services through a mobile app, the statement read.

“Mochi is an intelligent charging assistant for electric cars and will be a partner for everyone in the net-zero future,” said Envision Group CEO Zhang Lei.

According to research from Canalys, 1.3 million EVs were sold in China in 2020. That number is expected to grow to 1.9 million this year, which would represent 9% of all cars sold in the country.
