Chinese tech giant ByteDance is taking down the WeChat mini-app of its healthcare arm, Xiaohe, on October 31, Pandaily reported.
WeChat has already stopped rolling out updates to the mini-app as of September 26 this year.
The development comes two months after ByteDance acquired high-end hospital group Amcare Healthcare in early August, and the tech giant is reportedly moving to further consolidate its medical services into one ecosystem.
ByteDance has never disclosed its strategy for its healthcare business, though the Amcare acquisition represents the latest in its history of acquiring or investing in medical services.
Currently, the tech giant’s healthcare ecosystem covers digital consultations, drug research and development, and wholesale and retail drug sales, among others.
Recently, ByteDance’s board approved the company’s plans to buy back US$3 billion worth of its shares, though the company has reiterated that it does not intend on going public soon.
