Proptech startup Juwai IQI to hire 1,000 tech staff in Malaysia

Malaysia-based proptech company Juwai IQI announced that it is building a data and technology team with more than 1,000 employees in Kuala Lumpur.

The new job roles range from platform and mobile app developers and data scientists to social network community specialists.

Juwai IQI’s technology hub will be located at Millerz Square, and the company has begun the process of designing and fitting out the new space, with plans to move in during the first quarter of 2022.

Founded in 2019, Juwai IQI offers real estate marketers an end-to-end marketing and sales solution that integrates its app, a network of more than 15,000 real estate agents, and its property marketplaces.

Last year, it sold and rented properties whose worth amounted to US$1 billion and has tripled the size of its agent force to more than 15,000, according to Surina Shukri, CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation.

Apart from Kuala Lumpur, Juwai IQI has another team in Shanghai, which serves as its base for research and development in the greater Chinese market.

The move is in line with the Malaysian government’s MyDigital initiative to attract 70 billion ringgit (US$17.3 billion) in digitalization investment by 2025.

The digital economy is expected to contribute 22.6% to Malaysia’s gross domestic product by 2025, said prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Malaysia is fast becoming one of the most important technology hubs in Asia,” said Georg Chmiel, co-founder and group executive chairman at Juwai IQI. “Malaysia has what it takes to be the digital heart of ASEAN. There are 400 million mobile users in ASEAN, which is important because mobile is the platform on which we are building the advanced services that will power our future growth.”
