Qeon Interactive Plans to be Indonesia’s First Social Gaming Platform

Riki Suliawan(Qeon) and Im Jun Hyok(Doobic)

Qeon was recently launched at the Scusa Intercontinental Mid Plaza Hotel, Jakarta, where it also featured its first game, Shadow Company. Founded back in June of 2011, Qeon Interactive will focus on publishing games from Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan into the Indonesian market.

Qeon Interactive’s marketing director, Andrian Pauline, explains a little more:

With the launch of this company, we want to give gamers the highest level of convenience and satisfaction by leveraging on our gaming social network platform and world class customer services that will enable our customers to achieve a maximum level of gaming experience.

Supported by Biznet [1], Midplaza, and Perkom, Qeon’s first game is called Shadow Company. Working with Doobic game studio from Korea, Shadow Company is a first-person shooter (FPS) online game, but it has more features and gameplay compared to other online FPS titles out there. The differences lie in the game mode, skill mode, and graphics. Shadow Company has a mode whereby you can have four teams playing against each other on one map, while on the skill side there are individual skills, tactic requests (like calling a helicopter) and weapon operations (fast reload). As for graphics, it uses the Unreal Engine enabling PCs with even moderate specifications to play. Shadow Company is also on Qeon SNS (social networking service) where people can share their achievements, avatars, or chat with each other.

Doobic has been developing the game for three years, with 60 employees working on the title (80 employees in total, some of the development was outsourced to China), and it is their first game on the market. When asked whether they are making any games on mobile or tablet, CEO Im Jun-Hyok explains that most of the Korean game studios only make online PC games. Qeon Interactive’s CEO, Riki Suliawan, explains a little more about getting Shadow Company:

The story of how we are able to get Shadow Company is really interesting because at that time Qeon had nothing while they were already working with Nexon. I think Jun-Hyok saw a passion inside of me and here I am, able to launch a game company of my own which is my dream ever since I was a little. If I was asked whether we would like to be GREE or DeNA, of course, why not? But we still have a long way to go and we are learning along the way.

Social gaming companies like GREE and DeNA make huge revenue each and every year. Indonesia has a big gaming and internet industry, plus the market is expected to mature in the next few years. And that aligns with Qeon’s long term goals to be the first Indonesian social gaming platform.
