After sodas, Indians can now pre-order a Burger King Whopper online

Pre-order Burger King Whopper burger from eBay India

Pre-ordering gadgets online might be the latest trend in India. But food and beverage brands are quickly catching on to that. American fast food chain company Burger King is setting foot in India with an exclusive offer to pre-book burgers online. That’s right, the fast food brand has partnered with eBay India to let Indians pre-book β€œWhopper” burgers costing INR128 (US$2) each. The offer will run till November 5 and can be redeemed from the physical store on November 9. Burger King is working on a special Indian menu without any beef and pork to respect the religious folks in India.

Frequent travelers are quite familiar with Burger King’s presence at several international airports. It is the first multinational fast food company to launch a pre-ordering of burgers on an ecommerce site in India. While its restaurants are open for all, the exclusive online offer is mostly targeting urban youths with penchant to get early access to international products.

The first Burger King store is set to open at a mall in New Delhi and the American fast food chain will expand its presence to 12 outlets – six in Delhi and six in Mumbai, in the next two-three months, reports Live Mint.

In late September, Coca-Cola India launched its zero sugar soda – Coke Zero through exclusive online pre-ordering on Amazon. While it was a new branding move by the cola maker, the strategy did inspire others to test the waters.

Exclusive online pre-ordering has gained massive momentum since last year as phone makers such as Motorola, Xiaomi, Apple, and Samsung tasted some level of success. Food brands jumping onto the bandwagon is a sign that ecommerce is gaining a foothold in India. According to a recent Gartner report, India’s ecommerce market will reach US$6 billion in 2015.
