Buffet Mania Updates, Wants to Turn You Into a Buffet Maniac

Buffet Mania IconFood apps seem to be all over the place lately. We’ve had both Chope and Burpple release new iPhone apps over the past couple of weeks, and now Buffet Mania is the latest to unroll a new updated iPhone app, supporting new features to enhance your hungry quest with a variety of buffets in Singapore.

I met up with Chua Meng Kiat, the co-founder at Buffet Mania, over coffee, and he gave me a quick demo. The newer version definitely has better features than the one originally introduced back in February, but of course, there are still areas where the app can improve.

I’m a visual person, and given my soft spot for food, I like the “foodie” tab which features an array of food porn icons. On clicking on the icon, it brings you to the restaurant that offers that particular dish, listing details, promotions, reviews, and location. Pictures are worth a thousand words, and using mouthwatering photographs is probably the best way to entice users to find out more.

Meng Kiat tells me that girls are loving the “heart” feature, where it will automatically adds the restaurant you have just ‘heart-ed’ into the list of favourite restaurants in your own Buffet Mania profile. You will then be able to follow various updates from them, so you won’t miss out any promotions they might have.

Users can also search for buffet restaurants via location and type of cuisine preferred. The startup has also integrated various food-related blog content in the app, where you can find out more about the restaurants from popular food bloggers.

I don’t mean to be too picky, the app is good, but I’m not a big fan of the font that on the categories within the “discover” tab, and I think it would be great if this were different. The discovery and the featured tab fonts were different, and it would be good to adopt a consistent font throughout to maintain a seamless visual experience.

If you’re a buffet lover based in Singapore and haven’t gotten the app yet, you can download it from the Singapore iTunes store here.
