Hello reader,

Whether it’s driving in Grand Theft Auto or tending to your crops in FarmVille, video games usually integrate elements of the real world into the gameplay. As the GameFi universe slowly grows and enters mainstream gaming culture, it’s doing much of the same, but in a unique way.

So far, games have let us take our pets for a stroll or cook a sumptuous meal, but it seems GameFi has paved the way for something more complex: a kind of supply chain in this virtual space.

Today, most products go through a host of middlemen before reaching the end consumer. For instance, fresh groceries are likely to go through farmers, wholesalers, and retailers before ending up on the dinner table.

Similarly, BreederDAO has developed a way to mass produce high-quality non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that can be sold to gaming guilds. These NFTs are then rented out by the guilds to end users, i.e., players (or scholars) in exchange for a piece of their earnings.

Our premium story pick today provides an insight into BreederDAO’s role in the GameFi supply chain and how the Philippine startup looks to become an integral part of the space by addressing a critical bottleneck.

Today we look at:

  • An ‘NFT factory’ that’s shaking up GameFi
  • The pre-seed funding round of a Singapore-based startup addressing the talent crunch in tech
  • Other newsy highlights such as Gojek raising prices in Singapore and SoftBank bringing another unicorn to life

Making money while being glued to their screens is what many passionate gamers dream of. This makes venturing into crypto and play-to-earn (P2E) gaming an enticing prospect. However, many are likely to fall at the first hurdle: The cost of joining crypto games is sometimes as much as 25x more expensive than that of a PC game.

Step right in, BreederDAO: Based in the Philippines, the startup helps drive down entry costs for crypto games and remove an industry-wide bottleneck that has slowed growth. In just three months since its launch, the company has raised over US$10 million in venture capital and raked in US$2 million in profits.
