The Playstation 4 finally released in Japan, and sales are up

As you may or may not know, the Playstation 4 (PS4) saw a delayed release in Japan and was finally released this past weekend. There was a lot of speculation on how this late release would affect sales, but fortunately for Sony, sales have been good so far despite the delay.

The PS4 sold over 322,000 units in its first two days, which is a massive jump in sales compared to its predecessor’s launch. The PS3 only sold roughly 80,000 units during its 2006 launch in Japan, which is approximately what the 3DS does during an average week in Japan now. When you compare the two launches, you can see the PS4 outsold the PS3 4:1. Still, this 322,000 is nothing compared to the PS2’s 650,000 units.

Keep in mind that these sales reports are simply from the first two days. It will be interesting to see if by the end of the week the PS4 can outsell the 360,000 Wiis that Nintendo sold in its launch week.
