With $600k funding, flower delivery startup sets its sights on weddings

Whether you want to surprise a loved one or simply design your home or workplace, BloomThis wants to be your wingman.

The Malaysian startup delivers unique artisan flowers in a bespoke box on-demand and on a subscription basis. The flowers come straight from the farms.

Today it announced it has raised US$600,000 in seed funding from Singapore-based venture builder and capital firm REAPRA to “build up its delivery business into the wedding space.”

It also plans to foray into new markets such as Singapore and Indonesia.

Founded by husband-and-wife Giden Lim and Penny Choo, BloomThis claims to have seen a 1,200 percent surge in sales for the past year. It declines to disclose absolute figures and other financial information.

The company graduated from MaGIC’s accelerator in 2015, raising US$200,000 towards the end of the program.

“The company meets our growth strategy of investing in startups that have a good fit of a traditional business and technology to drive it forward,” says Vikram Bharati, investments lead at REAPRA.

Set up by Japanese entrepreneur Shuhei Morofuji, REAPRA has 14 direct subsidiaries, including two VC firms. It has so far invested in 40 startups in agriculture, healthcare, education, hospitality, digital media, travel, real estate, and aerospace.
