BlackBerry Developer Day Attracts Application Developers in Indonesia

Research In Motion (RIM) held a BlackBerry Developer Day yesterday at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) campus. This one-day event was attended by more than 300 invitees, mostly application developers, students, and technology enthusiasts.

This BlackBerry Developer Day was the fifth held by RIM in Indonesia. Previously, RIM had held the same event in Bali, twice in Jakarta, and once in Surabaya. Johan Kremer, Head of Alliances SEA at RIM explained:

Because Indonesia is the largest market for BlackBerry, we want to give more knowledge about the various BlackBerry applications and invite the community to create new applications. We also want to organize BlackBerry Developer Day events in other cities in Indonesia later.

The event featured several success stories from some Indonesian application developers, namely Elasitas, 7Langit, and Tasterous. RIM also gave presentations about webworks and Adobe AIR development for the BlackBerry Playbook and BlackBerry Smartphones.

An attending Blackberry developers named Bobby shared his thoughts with Penn Olson at the event:

Compared to the previous BlackBerry Developer Day [in other cities in Indonesia], the explanation of the application development is clearer and fits for local [Indonesian] developers, so we got more knowledge from the event.”

Considering Indonesia is such a huge BlackBerry nation, this event was highly anticipated both by tech enthusiasts and BlackBerry fans. Witnessing such excitement among those interested in Blackberry development, we think it bodes very well for RIM’s chances of maintaining its competitive edge in the Indonesian market.
