The Indonesian police force has enlisted a team of experts to investigate the infiltration of government-owned websites last week. In an effort to solve the problem, the police are cooperating with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and ID-SIRTII (the Indonesia Security Incident Response Team On Internet Infrastructure).
After the Indonesian Police Force’s official website, the site for National Defense was also hacked, followed by Pertamina and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology websites.
Tifatul Sembiring, the Minister of Communications and Informatics, stated that the hacking incident was too exaggerated. He explained that the government realizes that government-owned sites are can be attacked many times, and that should be easy to overcome.
According to Detikinet, the Head of Public Relations and Information Center of Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Gatot S. Dewa Broto previously said that, “Based on our experience with the ID-SIRTII, it is not difficult to trace the hackers.”
But nevertheless, a week after the hacking incident, the problem remains unresolved. Over on the Minister of Communications and Informatics’ website, one hacker left this message:
But the fact is, you are too lazy to fix what you have, and always want to do things to appear great in public, [but] no .. you’re not!
This case is certainly a good lesson for government departments in Indonesia that hackers should never be underestimated.
The problem is certainly not unique to Indonesia nor is it only a government problem. Sony is currently in the midst of a crisis as a result of its PlayStation Network and other web properties being hacked multiple times.
