Gojek enables Bank Jago account opening on its app (Updated)

Update (November 25, 12:30 pm): Added details of the deeper integration between both companies.

Indonesian super app Gojek has allowed users with verified GoPay account to open Bank Jago accounts directly from its app. The move completes the integration between the two firms, which kicked off with Bank Jago being accepted as a cashless payment method on the Gojek app in July this year.

Hans Patuwo, chief executive of Gojek’s payment arm GoPay, said that while the integration with Bank Jago is “unique” and “special,” GoPay is still open to opportunities to integrate with other players in the financial industry.

Since 2020, the decacorn, which recently merged with Tokopedia, has been one of Bank Jago’s investors. Currently, it owns a 21.4% stake in the bank through GoPay.

Now, users of the super app can pay for transportation, food delivery, and bill payment services using their Bank Jago balance. This means they don’t need to top up their GoPay accounts – which typically requires additional transaction fees – and are able to pay for these services faster.

Besides Gojek, Bank Jago has also started collaborations with several local tech startups. Recently, the bank announced a partnership with investment app Bibit, allowing users to open a bank account and use an auto-debit feature to buy mutual funds on the Bibit app.

It also partnered with invoice platform Paper to allow distributors who have invoices from their buyers on the platform to cash out their money faster.

The bank launched its own app called Jago in April this year.
