Zopim co-founder to set up new traveltech startup eyeing industry’s post-Covid recovery

According to the report, Tay is building GoTrippin, which will act as a hub for various travel content from around the web. The exec said he and his two business associates are optimistic about the future of the traveltech industry as a whole post-pandemic.

With Covid-19 keeping people indoors, players in the global travel industry have taken some major hits.

Indian hospitality major Oyo in April said it saw a 50% to 60% drop in revenue and occupancy, leading to the company implementing pay cuts and furloughing a number of its staff. Singapore’s RedDoorz also offered temporary furloughs, but had to lay off less than 10% of its total workforce.

Ferry Unardi, co-founder and CEO of Traveloka, also recently said the company experienced “the lowest business rate that [it has] ever seen” since it was founded in 2012.

However, Traveloka in July said it started seeing “encouraging recovery” across all of its key markets in domestic, short-distance travel, and activity bookings. It recently raised US$250 million to further strengthen its balance sheet and deepen its offerings in select priority areas.
