JioMart Express, the quick commerce service of Reliance JioMart, has shuttered the platform as it was leading to heavy cash burn for the company, The Economic Times first reported.
The platform was launched in a beta phase in March 2022 for a selected user base, promising grocery delivery within 90 minutes. A source told Tech in Asia that it was a closed user group trial only in Navi Mumbai, which is part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
According to the ET report, users are now being directed to JioMart on WhatsApp, an initiative launched as a partnership between Meta and Reliance in August last year.
The closure of JioMart Express continues to raise questions on the sustainability of quick commerce services in India. Zomato’s Blinkit, Swiggy’s Instamart, Zepto, and Dunzo are all struggling with rising losses.
