Sources: Byju’s acquires doubt-solving edtech startup Scholr

Byju’s has acquired Scholr in an all-cash deal, reported Entrackr, citing three people aware of the transaction.

Details:

  • Byju’s has acquired the Mumbai-based edtech startup Scholr for a deal that’s said to be worth between 150 million rupees and 200 million rupees (US$2.1 million and US$2.8 million).
  • Scholr helps students between grades 6 and 10 solve their doubts as they study through its video-based application that is available on mobile phones.

Context:

  • Earlier this week, Byju’s was said to be close to acquiring its rival Toppr Technologies in a transaction valued at roughly US$150 million.
  • In June 2020, Byju’s was reportedly in talks to acquire Doubtnut, a doubt-clearing edtech startup similar to Scholr. However, the deal didn’t go through due to differences over valuation.
