Youku’s smart TV app

Youku Tudou, one of China’s biggest online video portals, today revealed its first ever hardware products. They include a wifi router, set-top box, and Android tablet.

The first batch of new devices is part of Youku’s new Cloud Entertainment business unit, which is the company’s fourth major unit after Youku, Tudou, and Heyi Pictures. The lattermost was launched in August as Youku’s in-house production studio.

These new products complete Youku’s entertainment chain, ranging from the creation of content, to the distribution channel, to the hardware it’s ultimately viewed on. Youku CEO Victor Koo said in a statement:

We have been progressively building our multi-screen media and entertainment ecosystem and taking our business to the next level. Now, we are taking a step further to extend our outreach into people’s homes and offer a more comprehensive consumer media and entertainment package, which will help drive average revenue per user.

The new gadgets will go on sale next month.

According to the press release, Youku’s router “forms a P2P-based content delivery network, accelerating video content delivery to Youku Tudou’s users and helping to lessen Youku Tudou’s bandwidth usage.”

The set-top box can stream 4K video and run high-end Android games. It comes equipped with Aliyun OS and a suite of Alibaba services, including Xiami music and online shopping.

Finally, the huge Android tablet comes equipped with a 15.6-inch screen, able to stream video, surf the web, and play games.

No prices were announced.
