What a week! What with the coup d’etat rumors and real-name ramifications, this was definitely an interesting week for China’s internet. What were the top stories? I’m glad you asked:

1. Alipay Making a Square-like Payment Device

COD fans and Square fans rejoice: Alipay is finally throwing its hat into that ring. What’s more, we’ve even got some pictures of the device!

2. An Interview with Acheevit

We sat down with the guys from Acheevit to talk startups in Beijing, gamification for sales, and their new deal with mig33. Plus, we got it all on video. Check it out!

3. More Weibo Weirdness

Things on Sina Weibo have been a bit weird since the real-name registration rules kicked in last weekend. Here, we go into even more weird stuff we’ve discovered, like how blocked accounts can still post via mobile clients.

4. Renren Launches Social Travel App and Platform

Renren jumps into the travel game with a social travel platform and app called Fengche. They’ve got iOS and Android versions; check out our article for the full scoop.

5. Lots of Gray-Market iPads in China, But They May Not Be Selling Well

Early on the week, we shared the news that more than 200,000 new iPads have already been smuggled into China. Then later on we took a look at some indications that the thing might not be selling as well as people expected here, with that and the increased supply from Hong Kong putting a financial hurting on US-based smugglers “importers”.
